La Paz and my birthday!

We arrived in La Paz in the mountain tops, explored, of course shopped and then it was time for my birthday!

On my birthday morning we headed up to one of the miradors overlooking La Paz and marvelled at how the buildings all cling to the mountainsides.

Really up in the mountain tops!

Look at how they cling!!

Towering over the city from El Alto.

Birthday smiles!

After lunch we went to see Luche Libre! Complete with the crazy acrobatic Cholitas.

Out came the wrestlers and the theatrics ensued.

There were lots of gringos there but also lots of the locals who really got into it, shouting and throwing things at the bad guys.

The kids were really into it too, shouting their heads off and running to get autographs from the wrestlers as they went back behind the curtain.

Each of the 'matches' contain a similar story. The good guy would come out first then the bad guy and then the 'referee' who would be cheating for the bad guy. The bad guy would be winning at first but then the fortunes of the good guy changed and he started to win! Then the referee got his commupance and seeming chaos ensued as other wrestlers burst onto the scene and started going at each other. Very funny.

Then it was the Cholitas' turn!

Woah!

These guys were seriously creepy looking and covered us with foam and confetti.

Then we went for a delicious Mexican meal, yum!

All in all a fantastic birthday - one for the memory banks!

  1. That wrestling looks just like the time Danny took on Fat Micky!
